PANAMA. Juan CarlosNavarro once again criticized the government on Monday. The mayor confronted President Martin Torrijos about “not keeping up” his promise of “more security”, going as far as to hold him personally responsible for the insecurity in which the country lives.

Navarro holds the president responsible for the PRD loss he foresees for the May elections. “The guilty one, if the PRD doesn’t win the next elections, will be no other than the president and secretary general of the party, Martin Torrijos.”

Some internal sources have revealed that Navarro’s move represents a ploy for the control of the party. Navarro is the first sub-secretary general, which puts him in charge of the party if Torrijos is taken down.

Others argue this can be seen as a threat against presidential nominee Balbina Herrera, who allegedly signed a pact to name him vice-president but hasn’t announced her VP pick yet.
