PANAMA. The Guadalupe Church in Calle 50 was too small for the scores of people thatarrived to pay their respects to the renowned Panamanian businessman, Cirilo McSween, who died aged 82.

Among attendees were President Martin Torrijos, who was taught by McSween when he was studying in the States, and Panamanian political figures.

Reverend Jesse Jackson also attended. McSween served as vice- president and head of finances of both of Jackson’s presidential campaigns in 1984 and 1988.

McSween was born in El Marañon. His success in athletics won him a scholarship to the University of Illinois in the U.S. to study economics. He went on to found an insurance company and the Independence Bank.
