The New York Mets have been patient with the Panamanian Rubén Tejada, 25, and after all, aren’t willing to give him up.
From a shortstop holder with projection of a star, Tejada has become a versatile player, capable of playing in three positions in the defensive infield with high solvency.
This ‘discovery’ was produced in spring of this year, when the manager Terry Collins utilized him on third base, appreciated his good defensive qualities, even though his batting needed improvement.
Tejado has substituted in David Wright’s absence, and has alternated short field with Wilmer Flores, and Daniel Murphy in second base.
‘Rubén has taken advantage of these new opportunities and is doing well,’ said Collins, who has firmly believed in the young player’s work.
Collins has given the Panamanian action in each game of the month of July, and the response has been acceptable, by increasing his offensive average to .238, with a homer and 13 runs produced.
Everything points to Tejada staying in his position and won’t be the object of any change to another team.
