LONDON.

England Rugby flanker James Haskell was handed a one-match ban Tuesday for striking an opponent with his head and will now miss Wasps' Premiership match away to arch-rivals Leicester on Friday.

A Rugby Football Union (RFU) disciplinary panel also ruled that Haskell can resume playing on September 30, a day before Wasps's match against Bath.

Haskell's ban was the latest setback suffered by English champions Wasps, who have started with three straight defeats against London Irish, Worcester and Northampton.

He was cited after an incident during Wasps' 11-10 loss to Worcester on September 14. Haskell does have the right of appeal.

Fellow Wasps forward Richard Birkett avoided any suspension after being cited for stamping in the same match. Birkett was reprimanded and warned.
