15 hours after the decision was taken by the Electoral Tribunal, the Anti-corruption second prosecutor, Ramses Barrera started his enquiries to determine since when the sculptures “Juegos de Antaño” have been missing.
Barrera said that no documents have been found in the offices of the First Lady, located in Parque Omar, that could clarify when the statutes went missing.
The statues scandal has generated friction between the presidential couple, Martin Torrijos and his wife, Vivian Fernandez de Torrijos and the Attorney General, Ana Matilde Gomez, because they are openly defending Giro.
Gomez said that so far no charges have been made against Giro with regards to the theft, but that the investigations are continuing regardless of what the First Lady feels: “My only map in this case is the Penal Code.”
Meanwhile, Mingthoy Giro only said that she is not worried about the enquiries of the MP. ”We are co-operating with their investigations.”
The statues disappeared over a month ago from a locked deposit belonging to the First Lady’s Office located in Parque Omar.
