PANAMA. Around 336 hectares in the Cocoli area will have to be cleared of live ammunition, left behind by the US army during their time in Panama.

The Executive Manager of the Locks Program of the Panama Canal Commission, Jorge De La Guardia said that there is no option but to carry out the expensive clean up operation to be able to proceed with the widening of the canal. For years the Panamanian government has asked the United States to pay for the cleaning but so far nothing has happened. De La Guardia said that they are recording the expenses and will pass that figure to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
