PANAMA. A new monitoring center that is the second phase of the Video Surveillance System was opened yesterday by President Martin Torrijos.

The aim of the system is to reduce and prevent crimes especially in problem areas.

The system will have 740 cameras located in different sectors of the capital city such as Juan Díaz, Rio Abajo, Curundu, Bethania and Bella Vista and others.

The surveillance system is an innovation that has had a 70 percent effectivity rate, leading to 131 cases being investigated.
