Panama City is ready for the arrival of his Sanctity, Pope Francis to the World Youth Day (WYD), which starts this Tuesday.

It is expected that the Supreme Pontiff will arrive to Panama City on an Alitalia flight on Wednesday, January 23 at 16:30 local time.

The Local Organizing Committee informed last Sunday that 27,037 pilgrims and volunteers have arrived to the country to assist to the WYD.

It is expected that in the next hours thousands of pilgrims will continue to arrive to participate in activities of the biggest youth religious encounter in the world, that includes a series of events in which the Pope will take part.

In addition to meetings with young people and religious ceremonies, the Pope will visit a detention center for minors and a home for people infected with HIV.

The last visit to a Pope to Panama was in March 1983, with the arrival of John Paul II.
