PANAMA. A man who refused to pay an extra 25 cents on his bus fare was stabbed by the bus driver and his assistant.

Reinaldo Ortega, 42, was travelling on Torrijos-Carter bus at 5:30 Sunday morning, when he asked to be dropped at Vista Hermosa where he went to pay the normal fare of 25 cents.

However, the bus driver, Jose Ruben Blades Quitana, 30, and his assistant, Javier Arturo Ortiz Blandford, 19, said that the fare was 50 cents.

A heated debate started and Ortega left the bus.

Blades Quintana and Ortiz Blandford began to chase the passenger and when they caught with him they stabbed him and fled the scene.

The bus was intercepted by the police at the Torrijos-Carter bus depot, in San Miguelito where the two perpetrators were arrested.

Ortega was transferred to hospital to receive medical attention.
