PANAMA. The entertainment company Showpro which promotes around 15 musical, sporting and other events in Panama each year has had its accounts seized by the Consumer Protection Agency (ACODEC) for non-payment of fines amounting to $30,800 which have been outstanding since 2007.
Representatives of ACODECO said that Showpro had 12 pending fines to pay which were imposed for failing to comply with ACODECO’s demands after consumer complaints were upheld.
Showpro’s lawyer, Jorge Quijano, said that around $8,000 of the money owed is for ticket refunds after customers were unable to attend a concert promoted by the company. He said that Showpro had already paid the refunds and that ACEDECO had accepted false claims. He also said that the company now owed just $22,800 and that they had agreed with ACEDECO to pay this in monthly installments of $1,000 for two years. ACEDECO said that it has seized accounts of 100 companies.
