Constructora Norberto Odebrecht, which won the contracts for both projects confirmed that currently the Coastal Strip employs 2,024 people and the Madden-Colon highway 2,500 workers.

The Labor Minister, Edwin Salamín Jaen said that it is true that a source of employment is drying out, but he is confident that other projects will start in future to compensate the imminent loses and added that 2009 will not be an easy year for the economy, but it is a problem that the new administration will have to solve.

The analyst Jose Blandon senior and the economist Adolfo Quintero recommended that a new economic policy that includes the private sector should be devised aiming to create more investment in infrastructure that in term will generate sources of employment.
