PANAMA. If you are tired of the daily rants of newspaper columnists and TV talking heads, and want to express your own feelings about things that affect you, and those around you, or if you just have the urge to write, because at last, you have the time, now’s your chance.

Starting on Saturday, November 23 we will be devoting page four of the Panama Star to reader contributions.

So whether you want to write a letter, or an article, you will join a team dedicated to expanding the knowledge of Panama and its environs to all of its citizens.

You will be sharing space with: David Young, journalist and author with a career in print and broadcast journalism that has seen him working in Britain, Europe, Africa, Canada and finally Panama.

Phil Edmonston, an American/Canadian journalist and author of the best selling “lemonaid” books that uncover the mysteries of the car world, who was a newspaper columnist and broadcaster in Montreal, and is one of the few American citizens to have served in the Canadian Parliament.

Marijulia Pujol Lloyd with a distinguished career in print and broadcast journalism in Panama, the United States and Britain.

Fatima Asvat who joined the Panama Star after graduating from Georgetown University, and has become a renowned commentator on the social life of Panama, including restaurants and shopping.

They will all welcome your contributions.

GUIDELINES

Articles should be a maximum of 400-500 words, plus if possible a photograph related to the subject matter. This precludes magazine style articles.

Subject matter: Copy should be of interest to a predominantly English speaking readership.

Take a position. Express a point of view on: Panamanian events, especially if they affect an ex-pat community, with a current news/ feature angle.

We welcome news of little known locations but tourist guide approaches should be avoided.

Restaurant reviews are covered by a staff writer, but we encourage readers to let us know of new locations, or old locations that have been reborn.

Style: Ideally write in the third person. Repetition of I and My tends to be self promoting. Take a point of view that will stimulate readers to respond.

Unsolicited articles should be addressed to The Editor, Panama Star, and should include an address and telephone number.

Editing: All contributions are subject to editing.

Send your copies to David Young at: dyoungstar@laestrella.com.pa
