MEXICALI. Panama's Celestino Caballero kept his WBA Super World super bantamweight and IBF super bantamweight titles after challenger Francisco Leal retired in the eighth round.
Caballero sent Leal to the floor on the first round and gave him a fistful in the second. After seven intense rounds and a cut to his face, Leal decided to abandon the match 10 seconds after the eighth round started. “Pelenchin” last defended his IBF/WBA crown with a hard-fought split decision victory against the crafty Joseph Mathebula of South Africa in July this year at the Arena Roberto Duran in Panama City.
