PANAMA. Eduardo Vallarino, a former presidential candidate for the Popular Party, while continuing to professing allegiance to his party, has decided not to support the Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD) candidate Balbina Herrera, despite his party’s alliance with the PRD.

Vallarino refuses to support Herrera,

He said: “I don’t think she, despite being my friend, is the best-suited person to run this country.

“ I cannot support one of the leading political figures of the dictatorship.”

“I am not quitting the party,” Vallarino, current vice-president of the Popular Party declares, but it is clear that the alliance with the PRD is one thing and supporting Balbina Herrera is another.

Meanwhile, Rene Orillac, president of the political party, says he will not be taking any measures against Vallarino or any other party member who decided to support someone else, as freedom of expression and ideas reigns in his party.

According to Orillac, if Vallarino respects his title, there will be no problems.

“The only thing we have told ‘Edy’ is that he can’t be the VP of our party and be seen walking alongside the Cambio Democratico presidential candidate, Ricardo Martinelli,” he said.
