PANAMA. 23 years ago, a young group of Panamanians from the Club Activo 20-30 embarked upon the challenge of organizing a big fundraising show called Teleton 20-30.

23 years later, the Teleton 20-30 has become the biggest fundraising event of the country, and Panamanians’ spirit of solidarity and commitment to the well-being of those in need continues.

The solidarity for the needy will be attested today by the donations towards the Teleton.

This year, the Teleton aims to raise money for the equipment of the neonatology units outside of Panama City (in the interior).

Today and tomorrow different musical and dance performers will gather in ATLAPA to donate their talent to the cause, as Panamanians gather to enjoy the show and make donations.

Everyday, more children die at the moment of birth for lack of proper equipment to care for them in the different health centers in the remote areas of the country.

The 2008 Teleton aims to obtain specialized medical equipment for prenatal and postnatal care, such as incubators, open incubators for procedures, neonatal breathing devices, monitors, portable ultrasounds, ante partum fetal monitors, among many others which will help improve the quality of life of many newborns in far parts of the interior and on the outskirts of Panama City.

The new equipment will help accelerate the specialized attention of babies, avoiding the time lost travelling to the city and helping alleviate the current space constraints that the Children’s Hospital faces for being the only national hospital known for its specialized attention of toddlers.

With “Tu eres la Teleton” (You are the Teleton) as their motto for a fourth consecutive year, the Club Activo 20-30 aims to unite once again Panamanian hearts in tune to the beat of the needs of the most disadvantaged.

There are many ways to make a donation:

Buying Teleton merchandise on its headquarters on 73rd St, San Francisco (entering from Banvivienda).

Depositing money in the following bank accounts: Banco Nacional (01002030) or HSBC (50804020590).

Calling today or tomorrow the Teleton hotline: 270-2030.

Calling the following Cable & Wireless lines:

900-2030 = $2.50

900-2031 = $5.00

900-2032 = $10.00

900-2033 = $25.00

900-2034 = $50.00

Join the Club Activo 20-30 in this noble cause!
